Update..What I am working on

Today is going to be a great day for the basement studio! We hit record high temps here in the 90's..too hot for this time of year! I plan on finishing the new Creative Sharp raffle quilt top this week. Creative Sharp raises monies to aid literacy programs here in the city. I had the pleasure of doing a piece for them last year which hangs outside their offices in the Milwaukee Art Museum, student program area. This year we, a quilter friend, Ellie, and I, are doing a raffle quilt with arty kids on the top. When I am finished I will post it...something different from my usual routine! Off to the basement!

Art Bras at our Show!

This is the display of art bras our group did to raise funds for our local Gilda's Club. It was displayed at our quilt show. To my surprise one bra was purchased and will be placed on permanent displayat the local Gilda's Club! My bra..the "Survivor" is in for a few repairs and then it will be delivered! Some of the names of the bras suggest how creative these women can be: Candle-a-bra (with working lights), Mussle beach, Look but don't touch, hands off, Door County Desserts! If you are interested, this display makes a wonderful conversation piece at quilt and art shows! Contact me if you would like to have them visit! So far they have been shown at three quilt shows and have received raving reviews!

New class available!

Well..Petal Pixels has my creative spirit going! I have begun the copyright process on my new class called "Pull your Palette" based on my last quilt experience. Quilters will provide a photo of their favorite item... a flower, a landscape, a patterned rug, etc. I will demonstrate how to pull the palette of colors from their photo and build a quilt to corespond to the picture. It is a fun way to combine the use of computers, fabric and color theory. Stay tuned for details!

Petal Pixels a Winner

Petal Pixels, my new quilt, won Viewer's Choice - Best of Show at the North Shore Quilter's Guild Show last weekend. My rendition of Toad-Formerly known as Prince took second place. The show was a success with over 800 attendees in one day. We made enough on admissions and silent auction to host speakers for the next two years and give a large portion to our charity, Gilda's club! More importantly, our art bra display is down three bras..Butterflies are free by Linda Jensen, Mussel Beach by Tink Linhart and Survivor by Terri Kirchner. The monies raised by the purchase of these bras will go directly to our local Gilda's House. My bra was purchased and then will go on permanent display at the House!

Stay tuned! Shows Over!

Just wanted to pop in and say the curtain has closed on the 2006 NSQG Quilt Show. We had a great turnout with successes in all our endeavors! We raised significant funds for Gilda's Club..We are fortunate to have helped a local chapter by selling off some of our art bra collection! This time around Mussle Beach, Survivor, and Butterflies are free were sold to worthy recipients! I will post a picture of Best of Show when I get the camera hooked up..still doing the bookwork! Thank you to all who came and saw a beautiful show on a terribly dreary day!

Cool blues!

This is an oldy but goody! I have made several quilts using this technique (Strips and Curves by Louisa Smith). It is one of my favorite scrap quilts. This one has over 80 different fabrics. Today it is raining and cold here and I thought of it as soon as I went for the paper!

This is a picture of a quilt I have done for BBD quilt block line. It is very traditional with an art quilt twist! The cat is actually two layers of appliqued tulle to give the "shadow of a cat on a quilt" It is called Puss in the Corner and the pattern is commercially available through www.bbdcreations.com

It has a lot of traditional quilting with feathers and the ever popular micro-stippling!

Inspirational Weekend

Just back from a great weekend in Northeastern WI. The trilliums were in bloom and the inspiration for new quilts was abundant. The ladies and I played with silk fusion, Angelina fibers, paintsticks and clay buttons. Petal Pixels is done! Finished the binding while others slept in. A very fine time! Stayed at a friend's rental ...Shadow Lawn..If you ever need a vacation spot it is available! Right on the bay side of Door County!

Off to teach

Leaving in a bit to go to the Door County Pennisula to teach silk fusion..felted silk roving. The class will be a demo type showing how to do the process then some experimentation with additives like Angelina fibers, threads, other materials to put between the layers. I have some new soy silk..waste product of soy beans.... to try..has a nice had and the textile medium holds it all together! Will share pictures upon my return.

Thursday 5/4

My part came for the Gammill yesterday, I will make my deadline! I am so excited. The quilt is looking good with a combination of fern-like structures, paisley-ish florals and sharp jagged lines with raspberry canes..Hope I can pull off the look!. Then it is off to a three day retreat to teach Silk Fusion in Door County!

New Picture

Tuesday May 2

This is a pix of my latest project. Petal Pixels. It was a final project for my color theory class this past winter. Hope to quilt it in time for the show! Since my part for my Gammill hasn't arrived yet..Yikes.. it will be tight the show is on the 13th!. The quilt was given a front row spot, too! Good thing I have lots of quilts to substitute if necessary!
